Frequently asked questions
Do any Lion of Sahara products contain preservatives?
Lion of Sahara dried figs, wild figs, freeze dried fruit and goji berries contain no preservatives, added sugar, colours or flavours.
Our dried mango, strawberries, kiwifruit, apricots and apples contain sulphur dioxide (preservative 220) or sodium metabisulphite (preservative 223) which protects the fruit from bacteria and assists in retaining the colour.
Why do I sometimes find dark apricots?
Gradually the apricots lose sulphur dioxide and begin to darken naturally, however, the fruit is still safe to eat.
Why do the figs sometimes become crystallised?
Over time these fruits can show signs of crystallization. This is the natural sugars rising to the surface and is in no way detrimental to the fruit. The sugar can be easily washed off with warm water.
What is the best way to store dried fruit?
Dried fruit should always be stored in a cool dry place. We recommend putting it into an airtight container once opened and refrigerating.
Once exposed to air freeze dried fruits absorb moisture and lose their crispy texture. To maintain crispiness fruit is best stored in the fridge or freezer once opened.
